Item Summary


This item requests approval for the sale of ten (10) surplus assets listed on Attachment A.




The Fleet Services Division is responsible for the proper sale of City fleet assets that have met their useful life. Vehicles and equipment that exceed $3,000.00 in value require council approval to dispose of per the City Code.


The list of assets has been reviewed and approved by the fleet asset review board (FARB). The assets meet the criteria established by the Fleet Services Division for replacement. The Division conferred with user departments in determining to retire each vehicle. Criteria for determining vehicles for surplus include, but are not limited to, mileage, excessive maintenance costs, reliability, safety issues, and utilization.


Fleet service will utilize City contract No. 2017-256 with Harris Auction to auction off the assets in Attachment A.



Financial Impact


The proceeds are returned to the vehicle replacement fund or the Division Fund that originally incurred the cost of the purchase. Harris Auction will be paid a 7.5% commission from the auction proceeds.

Mike Carr, Fleet and Facilies Manager, presented the surplus auction with Harris Action. He said the items in attachment A that are over $3,000.00 require Council approval to dispose of per City code, and the list of assets have been reviewed and approved by the Fleet asset reveiw board as meeting the critiera for replacement. The money will be put into the vehicle replacement fund and Harris Auciton will be paid 7.5% commission from the proceeds.

Councilwoman Orr asked why the dump truck only has 4272 miles. Mr. Carr siad the odometer cluster had been replced they have to put the number showing on the odometer and then attest it was not the correct milage. Councilwoman Orr said it has way more milage. Mr. Carr said yes it has well over 100,000 miles.
