Recommended Action: MOVE to approve payment of FY20 dues to the League of Arizona Cities and Towns in the amount of $27,375.00.

The League of Arizona Cities and Towns (League) is a non-profit organization formed in 1937 to advocate on behalf of Arizona's incorporated cities and towns. The League represents the collective interests of 91 cities and towns at the State Legislature and provides timely information on important municipal issues. It also provides legal counsel, reports, newsletters and publications, training and workshops, annual state conferences and events, and networking opportunities to member cities. The League was created by Mayors in 1937, and the City of Prescott is one of the League’s earliest members.  During the legislative session and throughout the year, the League staff meets with legislators and other groups to represent the interests of Arizona cities and towns. The League staff monitors and tracks bills of municipal concern that are introduced during the session and provides information, insight, and counsel to city leadership on this legislative activity.  Technical assistance is provided to cities and towns through a variety of methods including responding to phone inquiries, legal counsel, writing and editing technical publications and manuals, online services, archive collections and historical information.

Financial Impact

The amount of dues, which are assessed annually to all members, is based on a set base amount as well as the population of each city or town. The City of Prescott paid $25,582.00 in FY18 and $25,842.00 in FY19. After an Executive Committee recommendation to increase membership dues for FY20, the total amount for this year is $27,375.00. This expenditure is included in the City wide internal cost allocation for City administration so that 24% or approximately $6,570.00 will remain funded by the General Fund.
